New Recruits on Tideway

At BuildLondon we continually work with Contractors, Developers and Planning Authorities to support local candidates find work on, and develop career pathways through, on local construction sites.

On the Tideway project, all three main works joint ventures (FLO, CVB, BMB) recently sponsored a bespoke Pre-employment programme, funded by the CITB, which includes 4 weeks of training to attain a CSCS card and other construction tickets, plus one week of site based work experience placement and a guaranteed interview.

The BuildLondon team supported the development and delivery of three assessment days, one for each contract, to which all the candidates applying for the opportunity were invited. Each of these assessment days included: Information about the Tideway Project, Group and Individual activities, Literacy & Numeracy evaluations, Drugs and Alcohol screening and an interview with a hiring manager, for positions on each one of the Tideway sites such as General Operatives and Traffic Marshals among others.

In total there were 150 applicants, and the assessment days were attended by 40 applicants, resulting in 21 candidates being selected to start the pre-employment training, to date 13 have achieved a Work Experience Placement and 7 are now awaiting jobs starts, we wish them all the very best in their new roles.

Open Doors 2017

Book Now for Open Doors 2017!

Open Doors, backed by Build UK and the Construction Industry Training Board, aims to inspire people about the range of dynamic and exciting careers available in construction by providing an opportunity for people to see behind the scenes at major ‘live’ construction sites and offices across England, Scotland and Wales.

Following the success of last year’s event, Open Doors 2017 will take place from 27 March to 1 April 2017 and Bookings are now available on the Open Doors website at http://opendoors.construction/

So whether you are looking for a new career yourself or work with people who might be considering a career in construction, then we encourage you to take a look at the website and register as soon as possible to guarantee your place as spaces are likely to fill up quickly.

There are huge opportunities in construction over the next few years, with thousands of jobs in both traditional trades and managerial roles up for grabs.  Open Doors is a unique opportunity to hear directly from those working across the industry about their careers and experiences.  Visitors will be provided with a tour of the project so that they can experience first-hand the impact of construction on their local and wider communities and potentially take the first step on the road to a successful career in construction.

Last year’s event saw a record 3,000 people visit 138 construction sites across England, Scotland and Wales.  Open Doors 2017 is being delivered with support from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and Construction News.  Over 35 diverse projects have already registered to open their gates so far in 2017 including Multiplex’s 22 Bishopsgate in London and Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and Bouygues UK’s Pembroke Learning Campus in Wales.  More sites will be added in new locations over the next few weeks.

You can find out information about the full range of sites currently available and book a place at http://opendoors.construction/.
